Pedigree: By Design

In this series I wanted to explore the balance between the animalistic and human nature through the combination of portraiture and animal visuals. Through the line work and choice of animal, I was able to portray emotions from serenity to pure rage. This work is done on raw canvas that is only stretched once displayed, unevenly pinned to the wall creating the illusion of a pinned animal hide. Layers of sketches, texture, and values are stacked on each other throughout the creation of a piece, with each layer being visible in the end shows the pure complexity of the human emotion. Edges of the canvases are intentionally left unfinished to allow fraying over time and allows for the emotions of a certain piece to subtly change as the piece ages and societal views change as well.
